Tecumseh’s Mission
Make Good Boys Better
Make Good Boys Better
Founded by three Olympic athletes: Dr. Alexander Grant, George W. Orton and Dr. Josiah McCracken, the Camp’s mission now, as it was then, is “to make good boys better” through a program which centers around healthy athletic competition, an exposure to drama and mountain hiking of all kinds. Tecumseh upholds its reputation as one of the country’s finest sports camps.
Tecumseh’s beautiful location, wide-ranging program and superb staff of top-notch instructors offer a chance for each boy to experience a summer of challenges and fun!
As educators, our counselors strive to instill in each camper a sense of responsibility to our community. By the time summer ends our boys are stronger not only physically, but morally and socially as well. It is our aim to send a boy home understanding the values of good sportsmanship and self-discipline.
One of the many highlights of the summer is what we call Clinic. For the last week or two, campers may choose their morning activity and specialize in it. Older boys may take the opportunity to prepare for the fall sports season and younger campers generally choose the activity they like the best. Clinic has been a tradition at Tecumseh for decades, long before specialty camps became fashionable. Often visiting coaches will come to Clinic and provide expert instruction for our campers in many sports. In addition to Clinic the final weeks of Camp include unique events of all kinds and culminate with the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta and a Closing Ceremony for campers and their parents.
Whether a boy comes for half the summer or the full summer, he will be exposed to all Camp offers, make new friends that will last a lifetime and return home eager to make strong contributions as a productive citizen in his home community.
Tecumseh is a non-profit, independent Camp certified by the American Camping Association. Financial Aid is available through our generous Blue/Gray Scholarship Program.
